One Step Closer

Complete: Drop #46- Get in to Graduate School

Something that is both on my life list and 25 before 25 was getting in to graduate school. All this undergraduate nonsense has been chipped at with that goal for my education in mind.

I didn't apply to as many graduate programs as I should of. For whatever reason, I may have underestimated myself. I didn't even bother applying to PhD programs in clinical psychology. The acceptance rate is something like 10 out of 400 applicants. Although my chances were slim, I should have applied. The only program I did apply to that I actually wanted to attend was a PsyD program in Boston.

A few weeks back, I was accepted for an interview. I felt the whole process went very well, but not much is worse than disappointment caused by overconfidence. I actually had a dream that I didn't get in, which resulted in some bad behaviour on my part. But hey- that was just a dream. Because I got in!

So there ya go! I have been accepted in to graduate school!

Now the challenge is to figure out how I am going to manage going to graduate school full time while having a three month old baby. Hopefully they are flexible enough to work a schedule that works for both me and the hubby.

In other words, although I am thrilled to have been accepted, getting in was only half the battle!

Getting in to Grad School

Well I'm not in yet, but...

MSPP Interview

I got an interview! That's half the battle!

So there are two more phases:
  1. The Individual Interview
  2. The Group Interview
I am feeling pretty good about this! Although this semester has just started, I already feel like my undergraduate experience is being neatly wrapped up, complete with a little bow.

I remember when I first started college. I would listen to some of the other students with awe at their vast knowledge of so many things. They were able to pull a wide array of subjects in to nearly any conversation for a fairly interdisciplinary discussion.

Now I am finding that I am that student. I'm able to incorporate various concepts, explain research, and connect different fields in to my conversations to solidify my argument in a way I never could before. I'm coming across concepts I am already familiar with in my coursework. That makes things so much easier to grasp. Having the ablility to comprehend what the point of an article is without having to struggle as much as I did even two years ago is an amazing feeling!

My interview is set for crack-of-dawn A.M. the first week of March. I'll find out a couple of weeks after that whether or not I'm accepted. I still have a couple of schools I have to hear back from, but I would love to get in to this particular program!

Welcoming in 2012

I am very eager to welcome in 2012. Goodbye 2011, and good riddance. To properly welcome in 2012 it only feels appropriate to recap my accomplishments of 2011, few as they may be!

Going in to 2012, my expectations for what I am going to accomplish on this list are not incredibly high. If I were to write out my list of what I hoped to accomplish on this list, however, it would look something like this:

#7- Have a Child. If this didn't happen in 2012 I would be awefully concerned.
#16 & #18- Grow my hair so that it touches the top of my buttocks and then cut it and give it to a hair charity. It should be plenty long enough by the end of 2012, and hopefully by then I can just chop it off and have it short for a while
#10- Graduate from College. Again, would be very concerned if this didn't happen
#46- Get in to Graduate School. Here's hoping!

Honestly, anything else will be a bonus. Low expectations for 2012 as far as quantity, but for sure the quality of what I expect to be crossing off my list this upcoming year is superb :-).
